SoapRevolver is an art project by Leevi Lemmetty currently exploring darkness, hope, virtue and rebirth. Shaping something from a digital void into physical reality. He is interested in where contemporary processes meet classic techniques; the old and the new and the past and the future. A native of Finland, he completed a Masters in the UK’s National Film & Television School. This is a natural evolution in Leevi’s career in Computer Generated (CG) digital art, where modelling and sculpture are key parts of his process.
The Printed PLA (plastic) sculptures are first modeled using digital sculpting software. The sculpting is very much like sculpting something from clay - in this case digital clay. There is no automated element to the work, keeping the individual touch of the artist throughout. The final 3D print has a rough form requiring post-processing by hand; sanding and painting the surface with a resin, before assembling the individual elements of each piece. The finished surface is painted with a Polyurethane-Acrylic graphite powder mix, followed by another round of sanding to bring out the metallic sheen of the graphite.
